This post continues our series on how to remove some of the toughest stains.

Gum

So it’s happen to everyone, you go to sit down and suddenly feel a squishy feeling in your seat. Once you realize you’ve gotten gum on your favorite slacks it’s now time for action. If it is feasible at that time take off the garment that has the gum attached. Next place a bunch of ice cubes in a plastic bag and place it on the area where the chewing gum is located. You want to make sure you rub the bag on the gum to loosen it before any other action is taken. Next place the garment inside of the freezer to harden the affected area. Finally the chewing gum will freeze and become hard allowing you to easily remove the gum from the affected area and should not leave a stain. And that’s it! Be sure to tune in for more How-To’s on stain removal and clothing care from Sir Austin your favorite Fabric Care professional.

Have you ever picked up your clothes from you dry cleaner and not counted your order? Well if your like most people you don’t and you definitely should be. Sir Austin believes an educated customer is a happy customer and he wants to tell you how to never be worried that your dry cleaner is losing your clothes again and that is by COUNTING YOUR ORDER, BEFORE AND AFTER YOU LEAVE YOUR CLEANERS.

If you leave 10 items with your dry cleaner, they return 10 items back to you and there all your items then you can be assured that your order is correct. However for customers that don’t ever count there piece counts they can never be assured there dry cleaner is returning all there items . If you later realize that your old favorite shirt is not in your closet it can undoubtably drive you crazy as to where it could be.

Unfortuantly not all dry cleaners are honest and if your order doesn’t count out they might not be inclined to say anything if you don’t notice you have an article of clothes missing. Have piece of mind that you will never lose another item when you dry clean by counting your items before and after you drop off and pick up.

For those of you that don’t know Sir Austin is a big fan of small business. He started this series of posts to put a Spotlight on his customers businesses here in Northwest Austin and the surrounding areas. First A Few Facts About Stain Removal

-Time is not on your side. The longer a stain is let to set the less chance it has to be removed

-The combination of time and heat can also set some stains in permanently

-You want to exasperate all your pre-spotting options before washing or dry cleaning

-Pre-treating stains with key chain stain removers immediately after spill can give you a greater chance the stain can be lifted later.

Nothing is more annoying than getting a big stain on your freshly dry cleaned shirt. But don’t worry Sir Austin is to the rescue! Periodically over the next few blog posts Sir Austin will tell you how to remove those tough stains or at least tell you what to do in order for your dry cleaner to have a fighting chance later on when working on the garment. While simply using a little dab of a wet cloth will remove a lot of stains, a lot of other stains can be impossible to lift if the stain is aloud to set for to long.

1) Wine

Wine is ofter regarded as the most difficult stain to lift but Sir Austin wants to let you know how to increase your chances of defeating the arch enemy of dry cleaners everywhere. First off all you want to apply a a generous amount of salt directly on and around the wine stain as soon as you possible. The salt actually helps in the absorption of the wine when the stain is still fresh. The best thing to do next is apply some form of laundry soap mixed with water directly to the stain and allow the stain to soak overnight. And that’s it! Stay tuned for more helpful tips from your favorite dry cleaning professional, Sir Austin.

Here at Austin Cleaners we try and promote a family like atmosphere and love serving all our customers dry cleaning and laundry needs, also we love meeting new people. Did you know that America uses 3.5 billion hangers each year? That is enough steel to produce 60,000 cars! That is why Sir Austin is proud to introduce his all new hanger recycling program. We have purchased a number of different “green hanger recycling bins” in which you can easily and compactly place your hangers after wearing your dry cleaned garment. For us it was a no brain-er to not only save money on our bottom line from reduced hanger costs but also do our part as a green dry cleaner and be good stewards of the enviornment. We will even recycle hangers from our competitors, even if your not a customer of ours (which we would love for you to be!). Our landfills are being inidated with billions of wire hangers each year so lets all do our part to reduce waste and recycle those old hangers today!
